MOSCOW, RUSSIA
Formerly the standard tactical fighter-bomber of the Russian Air Force, the Sukhoi Su-7 was
unveiled to the West during the 1956 Soviet Aviation Day display at Tushino Airport outside Moscow. From the very beginning of its design
evolution, the Su-7 had been developed for a ground-attack role as well as for air combat. Many thousands of Su-7s were produced, though now the
aircraft is no longer in production. Several different versions were built, including experimental models with ski-type landing gear for operation
on snow and ice. Su-7s found their way into the inventories of a number of third world air forces and the plane remains in service in sizable
numbers to this very day...though not in Russia.
