MiG-19 Farmer -
Twin-engine interceptor/fighter. Two 5500 lb. st. Klimov RD-9F turbojets.
Entered service in 1955. First Russian production aircraft capable of
supersonic flight in level flight. 3 30-mm cannon (Farmer C).
Farmer E is all-weather interceptor version.
The MiG-19 was the USSR's first supersonic fighter. The highly-swept, thin,
sharply tapering wing was a remarkable characteristic. The MiG-19 proved to be
a capable and sturdy combat aircraft, maneuvrable and armed with powerful 30mm
guns.
Produced under the license in Chekhoslovakia (S-105).
China is still building developments (J/F-6, Q/A-5).
J-6 is in servise with 14 countries.
F-6 are sold by China to Pakistan since 1965.
48 F-6 sold by Pakistan to Bangladesh in 1978.
Many F-6 were sold by China to Bangladesh.
Cuba still operates 30 genuine MiG's.
Egipt has soviet MiG-19 and chinese F-6.
Few F-6 has Sudan AF.
MiG-19 were sold to Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria.
